ReplyDeleteSino-Japanese War
The Japanese's Master Take Over
The Sino-Japanese War was fought between Qing China and Meji Japan (August 1, 1894 to April 17, 1895) for the control over Korea, which was a Chinese state. Foreigners around the world assumed that China would end up victorious because of its legacy, but they were wrong. Even though China was well equipped and had a large army, Japan was more skilled and powerful. China and Japan both had rights to send their troops to Korea under the Tientsin Convention of 1885 and they did. In Korea, a rebellion had risen in 1894, called the Tonghak Rebellion, causing Japan to start a war with China. China and Japan had been ruling together, but China had the most control. Both having troops and explosives in Korea, led to the conflict. China lost a small battle at Seonghwan, so they concentrated on the war in Pyongyang. They, however, were crushed by Japan, even though they outnumbered the powerful Japanese. After Japan victoriously defeated the Chinese, there was no resistance in Korea. Japan had taken Port Arthur and retrieved Japanese prisoners. Excited over their victory caused them to murder the remaining Chinese population of that city. Japan finally received the recognition it deserved for its vast amount of power and skillful tactics.
I believe that since they had Korea, they could have been able to sneak in through the rest of China. They possible could have concurred China completely.
ReplyDelete- Mona I liked your article it's really interesting. In fact i actually read a book about this. In this book its about a Korean family who try to flee where they live because the Japanese solders were coming. They had to change their look and how they acted. This family had a son/brother who was working when the solders came in and killed everyone only he survived by pretending that he was dead. The family finally got to a brand new place. The kids had to go to school and pretend that they were not Koreans. I may be a little off on somethings because it has been years since i have read it.

The Japanese success during the war was the result of the modernisation and industrialisation embarked on two decades earlier. The war demonstrated the superiority of Japanese tactics and training as a result of the adoption of a western style military. The Imperial Japanese Army and Navy were able to inflict a string of defeats on the Chinese through foresight, endurance, strategy and power of organization. Japanese prestige rose in the eyes of the world. The victory established Japan as a regional power (if not a great power) on equal terms with the west and as the dominant power in Asia.
ReplyDeleteThe war for China revealed the ineffectiveness of its government, its policies, the corruption of the administration system and the decaying state of the Qing dynasty (something that had been recognized for decades). Anti-foreign sentiment and agitation grew and would later culminate in the form of the Boxer Rebellion five years later. Throughout the 19th century the Qing dynasty was unable to prevent foreign encroachment. This, together with calls for reform and the Boxer Rebellion, would be the key factors that would lead to the 1911 revolution and the downfall of the Qing dynasty in 1912.

China’s Lost

1800’s; probably the greatest period in history. I, a witness of that great period, have something to say. Imperialism, the idea of powerful nations controlling weaker nations; this idea brought us, Japan, a great victory. In the 1830’s, Britain began the conflict with China. Knowing the western powers are greater than any other powers in the world, Japan joined forces with them. We fought with Britain to take control of China. China, in the midst of decline was an advantage to us Japan. Japan had already modernized before China, we were one power greater than China; thus we won the wars that occurred. The victories gained us trading rights with China and resources for our industries. I, an imperialist and a nationalist, supports this imperialistic period in history. I have not pitied the Chinese, for imperialism justified our wins. Imperialism in China did not only give Japan a better reputation, but also benefitted us in many ways. I am for this great event; I support imperialism and Japan’s power all around. In my opinion, the reason China was captured in imperialism was the result of their faults. The Chinese hadn’t modernized by then, they were isolated from industrialization; they were weak. China being weak also meant that other countries would want to conquer it; thus was the result in imperialism in China. Since this entire event was a beneficial factor to Japan, I, as a nationalist of Japan would not go against this idea of imperialism; I certainly do not mind having an extra trade market in China and more resources for my factory.

Billy Bo BOB: How has the war effected you?
Stevie Joe wonder: The war was an educational way to lear about how the country wanted to expand and interact with other people.
Billy Bo BOB: How was the war?
Stevie Joe wonder: The war was really organized, many courageous men around me.
The screams of agony and explosions surrounded me. Men from both sides died from the left and right of me. There was no shelter. It was either fight and hope to live, or die. I was scared at frist, but I knew fear was not an option. Fear would lead me to my death. I have too much pride in my country to just die without glory. These countries do not understand our vast power. My fellow friends and soldiers are fighting to prove this point and to display their pride and loyalty to their country. The countries believe that China will win, well we will see about that. We may have a small army, but our power is not strength but heart. All my life I felt as though I had no true purpose in life. I felt that the only important things are grades, but that isn't true. When I joined the army, I felt like I was apart of something bigger than us. I felt like i was apart of a family. I had a purpose, to protect my country and prove its power. That is why I am on the battlefield today. I am fighting for every Japanese individual that deserves the right to call the country powerful and undefeatable. I am fighting for my family and purpose. I am fighting for my country.
ReplyDeleteIn 1853, a fleet of ships from the United States was sent to Japan in order to end Japan’s obligatory isolation and open them to trade. Japan learned how to adopt the way of Westerners which helped them withstand imperialism. This time period was known as the Meiji Restoration. Western technology was adapted in Japan, which led them to industrialize themselves in less than 50 years. Japan was improving little by little. When the Meiji Restoration came to an end, Japan no longer had to worry about being imperialized. Instead, they set out to become imperialists themselves.
ReplyDeleteIn 1894-1895, Japan and China battled In the Sino-Japanese War. This was started for the natural resources and the trading rights on the main land of Asia. In 1904-1905, Japan had engaged in the Russo-Japanese War for the same reasons as before. Japan was victorious in both battles, even though they were highly doubted. In 1905, Japan gained a few things in the Treaty of Portsmouth. They gained Chinese port city trading rights, control of Manchuria in China; Korea became its protectorate and the annexation of the island of Sakhalin. The usage of Western technology was helping Japan gain power. Eventually Japan’s imperialist ways brought them in conflict with the US in WWII, which Japan lost. Although they lost, Japan made great economic progress with out the ways of Imperialism.
“China calls themselves powerful. This is PREPOSTEROUS! It is their statement, but it is not the truth. They may have power and a large army, but they are not at all powerful. This war we are in, it is a war of pride. It is a war of leadership. It is a war of power. The other countries are laughing in our faces, and we are being ridiculed. They believe that China will defeat us in our war. They are WRONG! We have a small army, but that does not matter. It is a war of wits not strength. We need to prove to the other nations……no to the world, that we are powerful. We have the upper hand, so far, in this war and we will continue to have it. Pray for your troops and know that they are fighting to win, no matter what may happen to them. We will be remembered in history. Each and every one of you will be remembered, so make it count. Generations and generations will be talking about our triumph, our strength, our power. The other countries will fear us and wish they knew about our power in advance. My people, we are in a war and when it is over I promise you we will be victorious. "
ReplyDeleteHis words resonated within me. I believed every sentence, every word, and every syllable that he spoke. Japan is the best is what I left with. I returned home and all I could think about was that speech. I sat at my table thinking and thinking. How could China call themselves powerful? Why are the other countries so blind that they cannot see our power? I have pride in my nation and in my troops. They will all return home safely and show the world our true power. The troops are full of pride and that is what will help them win this battle. I agree that we have a small army, but we are more advanced. We will prove ourselves worthy of the name powerful country and we will, one day, make the world bow down to us. We already have imperialized and are becoming more technologically advanced than the other countries. Our weapons are better and stronger than the other countries. I cannot help but cry at this table. These are not tears of weakness or tears of sadness. No. These are tears of joy and tears of pride. I know in my heart that we will win. I can just feel it. I just know. There is no mistaking it. Journal, Japan will win. Japan.......will......win.

Billy Bo BOB: How has the war effected you?
Stevie Joe wonder: The war was an educational way to learn about how the country wanted to expand and interact with other people.
Billy Bo BOB: How was the war?
Stevie Joe wonder: The war was really organized. There were many courageous men around me. Everywhere I stepped there were dead men. Not my men, but the men who wanted to stop our success. These men did not stop us we were undefeated.
Billy Bo BOB: Well, that is indeed very frightening. How did you have the courage to join this war?
Stevie Joe Wonder: Billy it is not the fear that stops you from doing something, its whether you take it as a challenge or not at all. I did what I intended to do, that was to challenge my fear of dyeing. I then found out that I have all the courage I need, especially when I’m protecting my family from any plans other countries had to take over china.
Billy Bo BOB: Why are the men at war?
Stevie Joe Wonder: The men are at war because we the Japanese people need to show that we don’t have any weakness at all. I know how people are trying to take over other countries Japan won’t be one and I’m proud of being a solder.
Billy Bo BOB: This is some deep words you used. I must now ask you how you ended up back home with bandages all over.
Stevie Joe Wonder: (taking a huge breather) Billy the reason that I’m here may shock you. While I was with my group I hear a cry for help I thought it was one of my men. I went to check because we all know no man is left behind. As I get closer I hear the cry even louder I thought that I was getting closer but I found nothing. When I turned around I remember seeing nothing all of a sudden I’m waking up in the hospital almost here. That is all I remember.
Billy Bo BOB: Wow this is quite some story. Well Stevie thank you for your patience now I must go and type this up. Thank you so much. Good bye and feel better.
Stevie Joe Wonder: alright now thank you. Good bye
All around the world, Imperialism was in effect. Many countries had the pride and the power to go out and conquer on weaker countries. At first, Japan was a regular country that feared of being imperialized. That all changed when in 1853, the US sent a fleet of ships in order to end Japan’s isolation and open them to trade. Japan, in order to withstand the imperialistic power of the west, decided that it would be best if they learned western ways. Japan sent scholars to learn about the west. Japan abandoned feudalism and instead had a written constitution. The technology from the west was also adopted into Japan, which allowed them to be industrialized. No longer did Japan fear of me imperialized, instead, they set out to become imperialists.
ReplyDeleteIn 1894, western behavior and imperialism took over Japan as they engaged in the Sino-Japanese war. A bout 10 years later, Japan engaged in another war, the Russo-Japanese war. Japan came out the victor in both these battles. During the 1900’s, Japan used imperialism through out Asia. This was done in order to remove European imperialism. Japan’s imperialistic ego brought them to conflict with the United Sates during WWII. Japan was defeated in this battle. Although Japan was defeated, they progressed economically without using imperialistic ways. By the 1980’s Japan was being called one of the great economic powers of the world,, along with the United Sates and West Germany. Imperialism had impacted Japan in a good way, and overall brought them to success.
1800’s; the greatest period in history. I, a witness of that great period, have something to say. Imperialism, the idea of powerful nations controlling weaker nations, this idea brought us, Japan, a great victory. In the 1830’s, Britain began the conflict (What Conflict) with China. Acknowledging the western powers gave them power, so Japan joined forces with them. We (Japan and Western Powers?) fought with Britain to take control of China. China, in the midst of decline was an advantage to Japan. Japan had already modernized before China; we were one power greater than China; thus we won the wars that occurred. Our victories gave us trading rights with China and resources for our industries. I, an imperialist and a nationalist, supports this imperialistic period in history. I have not pitied the Chinese, for imperialism justified our wins. Imperialism in China not only gave Japan a better reputation, but also benefited us in many ways(how?). I am for this great event; I support imperialism and Japan’s power (all around)AWK. In my opinion, the reason China was captured in imperialism was the result of their faults. The Chinese hadn’t modernized by then; they were isolated from industrialization; they were weak. China, being weak also, made it vulnerable for countries to conquer it; thus was the result in imperialism in China. Since this entire event was a beneficial factor to Japan, I, as a nationalist (why do you keep saying I, as a nationalist?) of Japan , would not go against this idea of imperialism; I certainly do not mind having an extra trade market in China and more resources for my factory.
